9 years pass since establishment of MCIT

February 20 marks nine years since the establishment of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of the Azerbaijan Republic (MCIT). The Ministry was established on the basis of former Ministry of Communications by the order of President Ilham Aliyev, on February 20, 2004.
Creating the ministry was due to the high rate of development and penetration of information technologies into the everyday life.

Azerbaijan’s satellite reaches its orbit

Azerbaijan’s telecommunications satellite Azerspace-1 has already reached its orbital position at 46 degrees East longitude.

Note that previously the solar panels and satellite reflector antennas opened and went into operation.

The satellite will be in test mode for 2-3 weeks, and then it will be placed under the control of Azercosmos OJSC.

Azerspace-1, developed by the American company Orbital Sciences, is based on the STAR-2 platform.

ICT sector rose by 13.6 percent

In January this year, information and communication technologies sector in Azerbaijan increased in comparison with the same period of last year.

According to the State Statistical Committee, in January 2013, the volume of services rendered to Azerbaijani population, agencies and organizations by information and communications enterprises made up AZN 116.3 million, which is 13.6 percent more compared with the same period of 2012.

U.S. Congressman issues statement on launch of Azerbaijani satellite into orbit

Member of the working group on Azerbaijan Rodney Alexander issued a statement in the House of Representatives of the U.S. Congress in connection with the launch of the first telecommunication satellite of Azerbaijan.
According to Trend, Rodney Alexander, the representative of Louisiana, congratulated the country on the successful launch of the first satellite, noting that Azerbaijan is a close ally of U.S.
The congressman estimated this historical event as another example of developing relations between the two countries, noting that the satellite was produced by “Orbital Science Corporation” company in U.S.

57 years passed since start of TV broadcasting in Azerbaijan

57 years have passed since the start of television broadcasting in Azerbaijan. The TV, which has become an integral part of our lives, was launched for the first time broadcasting in the country on February 14, 1956.
On the first day of broadcasting Necibe Melikova appeared on the screen and started her speech with the following words: “Baku shows!”  Feature film “Bakhtiyar” was demonstrated on that day.
First, the television covered only the city of Baku and Sumgayit.

Azerbaijani President: Application of ICT received wide scope

The use of new technologies, information and communication technologies in Azerbaijan has received a wide scope. We are in first places in the region in this field. In general, we are among those who lead the lists of the world ranking, said the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on February 14,  at a conference dedicated to the  results of the 4th year of implementation of the State Program for socio-economic development of the regions of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2009-2013.
