WSIS Forum kicks off in Geneva
Forum on implementation of the decisions of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) began its work on May 14 in Geneva (Switzerland). Azerbaijan at the event is represented by the Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Elmir Velizade.
The event, organized by International Telecommunication Union (ITU), UNESCO, UNCTAD and UNDP, is the world’s largest annual forum for ICT community. The event presents special UN agencies, governments, civil society organizations and the ICT industry.

EuroClub officially opened in Baku
The EuroClub of the Eurovision-2012 Song Contest was officially opened.
The opening ceremony was attended by delegations of the 57th Eurovision Song Contest participating countries and famous people. The hits of different years were sounded in the party.
Foreign journalists, fans, who arrived in Azerbaijan, took pleasure in the party till the morning.

Heydar Aliyev Center opened in Baku
On May 10, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev inaugurated the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku, and attended a solemn ceremony marking the 89th anniversary of the national leader and the 8th anniversary of the founding of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
Accompanied by his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva and family members the Head of State arrived at the Heydar Aliyev Center, where he cut the ribbon symbolizing the official opening of the facility.
The President addressed the ceremony.

New communications facilities will be put into operation 
In order to give holiday delight to citizens during the significant days of Azerbaijan, “Aztelekom” Production Union will put new communications facilities into operation in the different regions of the Republic on the occassion of the birthday of Azerbaijani nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev, the Victory Day and The Republic Day of Azerbaijan.It should be noted that “Aztelekom” PU continues this tradition every year.

The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsperson) of the Republic of Azerbaijan made a statement concerning the 20th anniversary of the occupation of Shusha region of Azerbaijan.
The Statement was addressed to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the UN Security Council, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, UNESCO Director General, international organizations, the foreign embassies in Azerbaijan and Azerbaijani diaspora organizations.

Communications and IT Minister meets French ambassador
Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov met with the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of France to Azerbaijan Gabriel Keller.
