Minister of Communications and IT attends Regional Summit of World Economic Forum
Minister of Communications and Information Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ali Abbasov took part in Asian Regional Summit of the World Economic Forum in Tianjin, China.
New technologies, the introduction of scientific and technological achievements, innovative entrepreneurship, enhanced ICT, issues of global information security, impact of innovative technologies on the economy and the role of government in these areas were discussed in the summit.
Ali Abbasov spoke at the sessions and plenary sessions of the summit. Thus, at the session on “Hyperconnected World”, the Minister highlighted the achievements of Azerbaijan in the field of information and communication technologies, the union of the region with the help of virtual tools and Azerbaijan’s role in bridging the digital divide between the West and the East, as well as the work carried out under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev for the implementation of international projects - TASIM and EPEG, about the benefits of these projects for the world economy.
The Minister spoke about the work done in ICT field of Azerbaijan, and other projects of regional importance, informed the participants of the VII Internet Governance Forum, Bakutel exhibition and conference, which will be held in November 2012 in Baku.
On the second day of the summit delivering speech at “State on ICT” panel, Ali Abbasov gave detailed information on e-government in state-entrepreneurship, state-citizen and citizen-entrepreneur relationships, steps taken in this direction, the experience of Azerbaijan, etc. and responded the questions. The international projectsTrans-Eurasian super highway projects (TASIM), in which the country designated by the UN coordinator TASIM and EPEG, which are carried out on the initiative of Azerbaijan, attracted the attention of the participants. The participants expressed confidence that the ongoing projects of the country and the stakeholders in the future will make more efforts to implement them. The summit welcomed the development of non-oil sector in Azerbaijan, which is an oil country.
As part of his visit Ali Abbasov held bilateral meetings with the Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications of Estonia, Juhan Parts, deputy head of the US Department of Homeland Security Tara O'Toole, the Minister of Communications of Nigeria Omobola Johnson, vice president of Microsoft Steven Crown, president of China Industrial Corporation “Great Wall” John Liming, president of the company “Kaspersky Lab” Eugene Kaspersky, president of the Internet Society Lynn St. Amour, the Deputy Administrator of the UN Development Program Rebecca Greenspan, senior manager and head of the center for Information Technology and Telecommunications, World Economic Forum, Alan Marcus.
