Apple's Scott Forstall and John Browett to leave firm

Apple has announced a major shake-up of its management, with two senior executives to leave the company.
The announcement follows embarrassing problems with its new mapping software and disappointing quarterly results, the BBC reported. Scott Forstall, head of its iOS software, will leave next year. He will serve as an adviser to chief executive Tim Cook in the interim.Head of retail John Browett, the former Dixons boss, is also leaving after just six months in the job. Internet company Amazon summed up the results in the third quarter of 2012. The company reported lower-than-expected quarterly results for the first time in the last four years. The company said the third-quarter net loss was $274 million. These figures include losses from the fall in market value of the company’s assets in the service LivingSocial discounts by $ 169 million.
Note that in December 2010, Amazon invested $ 175 million in LivingSocial. In the third quarter of 2011, the Internet company gained a net income of $ 63 million
Apple reports record fourth quarter revenue, profit

Apple has announced its financial results for its fiscal 2012 fourth quarter that ended Sept. 29. The company posted quarterly revenue of $ 36 billion and net income of $ 8.2 billion. These results compare to revenue of $28.3 billion and net profit of $6.6 billion. Gross margin was 40% compared to 40.3% in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 60% of the quarter’s revenue.

The worldwide PC market contracted sharply in the third quarter of 2012 (3Q12), with shipments declining 8.6% from the third quarter of 2011, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly PC Tracker. The results are below IDC's August forecast of a 3.8% year-on-year market contraction.IDC had expected a quiet quarter as channels focused on clearing out Windows 7 inventory to make space for Windows 8. Continued pressure from other products such as tablets and smartphones, as well as uncertainty over the impact of Windows 8 and the economic outlook, contributed to depressed shipments – largely as expected.
