Azerbaijani IT Minister meets with SIVECO President
On July 2, Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov met with Mrs. Irina Socol, President and CEO SIVECO Romania. At the meeting Ali Abbasov gave the guest detailed information on the projects implemented in the country’s ICT sphere and achievements. The Minister said the relations with Romania in ICT sphere have been expanded in recent years.
The Minister highly appreciated the project “Electronic lessons”, at the same time considered expedient to implement the second phase of the project.

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies (MCIT) has started the application of new electronic services with the view of executing the decree of Azerbaijani President “On some measures in the field of provision e-services by state bodies” dated May 23, 2011.

Azerbaijani-Estonian intergovernmental commission’s meeting held
The 1st meeting of the Azerbaijani-Estonian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade & Economic Cooperation was held in Baku. The commission was co-chaired by minister of communications and information technologies Ali Abbasov on the Azerbaijani side, and on the Estonian side - minister of economic affairs and communications Juhan Parts.
Saying relations between the two countries are developing rapidly, Minister Ali Abbasov noted that existing good political ties would serve as background for further expansion of economic relations.

Azerbaijan, Portugal discuss ICT cooperation
As part of his visit to Azerbaijan, State Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Portugal Paulo Portas met with Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov on June 27.
The dynamic development of relations between Azerbaijan and Portugal in recent years, the special role of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in the development and huge potential for expansion of relations and establishment of a strong partnership between the two countries were noted at the meeting.

Modern enterprises store 2.2 zettabytes of data
According to the calculations of Symantec, today worldwide organizations hold around 2.2 zettabytes of data, and spend about $1.1 trillion to secure and provide access to it.
Those numbers were based on the results of a survey of 4,056 information technology professionals at organizations in 38 countries conducted by Symantec.
The survey found on average $38 million is annually spent by larger enterprises, and $332,000 by small to midsize businesses (SMBs), to store and secure their business data.

Minister Ali Abbasov inspects construction of Main Ground Satellite Control Center
The construction of the Main Ground Satellite Control Center of the company Azercosmos OJSC for the management and operation of Azerbaijan’s telecommunications and observation satellites is scheduled to be completed and fully put into use before putting the country’s first telecommunications satellite into the orbit.
Currently US-based Orbital Sciences (Azerbaijani telecommunications satellite manufacturer) and Azerbaijani specialists are installing antennae, technical equipment and other necessary equipment in the Center to manage the satellite.
