Dutch startup unveils pocket-sized PC

Dutch startup The Hague is going to introduce a new compact device that does not have full functionality of professional PC or laptop, but it is able to satisfy basic needs of ordinary user.

Mini computer Ockel Sirius B is based on the processor Intel. Currently, device developers are successfully raising funds for its production through crowdfounding site Indiegogo.

LHC smashes energy record with test collisions

A forum on introduction and promotion of standards in the field of information technologies (IT) and security in Azerbaijan will be held in Baku in October this year.

 The forum will be co-organized by Azerbaijani Institute of Standardization and Certification under the State Committee on Standardization, Metrology and Patent, and British Standards Institution (BSI).

Iran, Azerbaijan discuss bilateral cooperation issues in ICT field

Minister of Communications and High Technologies Ali Abbasov met with Iran’s Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Mojtaba Hashemi, who is on an official visit to Azerbaijan.

During the meeting, expressing satisfaction with his first visit to Baku, Mojtaba Hashemi said the visit aims to further develop relations between the two countries in ICT field.

Saying a number of leading IT companies of Iran are in Azerbaijan and are ready to mutual cooperation with Azerbaijani companies, Mojtaba Hashemi noted the possibility to work together to provide  access to third country’s market and expressed confidence that the meeting will contribute to further development of relations.

Preferential campaigns to be launched for communications services

Ministry of Communications and High Technologies (MCHT) regularly gives tasks to its relevant structures to hold preferential campaigns for communications services.

Next such a campaign for communications services will be held in November and December of current year.

It is reflected in the Action Plan on holding professional holiday of communications workers and in connection with the 133rd anniversary of the establishment of telephone communication in the Republic of Azerbaijan, approved by Minister of Communications and High Technologies Ali Abbasov.

Half the world will be online by 2017

Over 50% of the global population will have Internet access within three years’ time, with mobile broadband over smartphones and tablets now the fastest growing technology in human history, according to the 2014 edition of the State of Broadband report.

Released today in New York at the 10th meeting of the Broadband Commission for Digital Development the report reveals that more than 40% of the world’s people are already online, with the number of Internet users rising from 2.3 billion in 2013 to 2.9 billion by the end of this year.

Microsoft to close Microsoft Research lab in Silicon Valley

Microsoft plans to close one of its major research centers - the lab in Silicon Valley, according to the publication ZDNet.

Derek Murray, a Microsoft Research researcher in distributed systems, tweeted that “Today they (Microsoft) announced that the lab in Silicon Valley will be closing, effective Friday.”

Microsoft officials acknowledged the company would be cutting 2,100 jobs across the company worldwide as part of the previously announced layoffs of 18,000 disclosed in July 2014.
